Jay Grimmel

Many know his aunt as a vibrant apothecary. A ray of sunshine. Magical, to put it simply. So, the shock of learning of her less than vibrant nephew? Well, it's something he's very, VERY aware of, despite what others think.

He's a simple man, in his own words. One who needs few things; His sword close by him. His family even closer. And even closer than that? A reminder that he's safe now. Loved. That he belongs here.

He works for his aunt for a reason. It's just simple matters.

Personality

Compared to his auntie, Tara Grimmel, Jay has developed sort of the opposite reputation to her, known for his "stoic disposition". To some, he doesn't meet her standard, a sentiment that Tara herself meets with stern demand to get out of her store. It's happened enough to come to that, because he's more than that. He's honest to a fault, unshakably blunt and has an iron stomach makes the unsavory in life not the worst.

A year of going through the wilderness to find a new home with nothing will do that to you. Now that he's found a better home, he's a lot more grateful and keen to show some nerve when people say shit like "You don't meet the standard". Because here's the thing about him, truly; That reputation didn't come about when it was directed at him, it came about when it was directed at his loved ones.

In short; Talk shit, get hit.

Relations

Daisy brings out the softer side in Jay. A lot of people get confused seeing the two together, with Jay's reputation making it seem like he wouldn't have much patience for someone like Dee. In reality, it's quite the contrary! Dee's excitement is infectious, it's what makes Jay's stone front crack and let his feelings out. Daisy just brings a lot of color into his life. That's why he's in love with him.

For Jay, Tara isn't "just like family" to him. She just is. It helps she actually likes him for who he is, too. You'd be surprised how many people don't like the strong, silent type when they finally meet one. For these reasons alone, he's more than willing to be her assistant. Besides, it means they can associate going around forests, caves and the occasional abandoned village with better memories.

Moth is one of the first friends Jay made ever since he was adopted by Tara, and quite a significant one at that, being on the who introduced him to Daisy. They're lot alike, the two being folks of a few stern words to a lot of people. They even formed a little group to secretly get his aunt a date! He won't admit it, but knowing his boyfriend's sibling, a hero of Balmordeal, is just like him? It honestly means a lot.

Lalowe is just Jay's Lil' Cousin! The two met when Moth's party first made it to Balmordeal, having helped Tara back in the underground cave systems. Once Lalowe was entrusted to be with Auntie Grimmel while the party were away, Jay would grow a fondness for her. Affectionate and gentle with her, he often treats her like his little sister, often giving her gifts and even teaching her how to use axes & great swords.

Val is one of the first friends Jay made ever since he was adopted, and quite an important one his party happens to have a certain someone in their crosshairs who... Let's just say is the reason why Jay became a vagabond in the first place. As such, Jay already harbors a lot of gratitude for Val, even before Balmordeal was finally saved. Nowadays, he's who delivers stuff from Tara's store to Val's home.
