Children of Le Fey

To some, it may seem weird to have a dedicated page to a tabletop campaign that only went on for 3 sessions, let alone one at all. But what marks this one as special to me is that it was the first project me & my partner worked on together with our own roles. For Children of Le Fay, my first ever DM experience using the SPELL: The RPG system, I was the writer while Valentine was the artist & character designer, and together, we made a small, cosy corner of the world that was Li’l Avalon and its denizens & enemies.

Children of Le Fay was set in the late Middle Ages, after the end of a large war between the lands and its dictator who had tapped into the mysterious world of Avalon to oppress the country. Morgana (AKA Morgan Le Fay), a fae native to Avalon, is regarded as one of the land’s greatest heroes, and is remembered in the form of her own quiet town of Little Avalon, where her tomb rests underneath. Secretly however, she still remains as a spirit, often watching over & accompanying her citizens. One night, where her spirit sends out the Player Characters to look into strange happenings, the town is suddenly under attack and reduced to rubble, including Morgana’s tomb, whose corpse has been removed.

After discovering that the allies of the great dictator have returned under a new conspiracy, the players are tasked to travel to the other corners of the lands to retrieve the body parts of Morgan Le Fay, while also helping the remaining people of Little Avalon immigrate to safer places. Though the campaign lasted only for 3 sessions, I’m anything but regretful of it. Not only was it one of my favourite projects to work on with my partner, it planted the seeds for my interests in Medieval history.

There aren’t exactly any plans to make it into a book or anything… Maybe… But I can tell you, the characters who were made for this story will appear in others of mine! (And will also have more accurate research behind them, that much I promise.)

Design piece for the character Morgana. The living version of this giant insectoid, her glass limbs are constructed like doll limbs with ball joints in place of regular joints that connect to her green, muscular body with yellow glass breast pieces & waist piece, her hands & feet glowing pink like her remaining antennae above her dark eyes with colour pupils. Her hair is almost as large as she is, black and messy, obscuring half of her snow white face.
Design piece for the character Turner Aten-Shaw. A human, his face is modelled after the actor Gene Wilder when he was in Young Frankenstein, with frizzy hair, a sharp moustache and goggles that are currently resting around his neck.. He wears a brown cape over a green coat with puffed & slashed shoulders, with puffy, orange pants that go down to his brown boots. Beside his brown belt with blue, glowing potions is a rusty canister, held up by a shoulder strap, that also contains a glowing blue energy. His left hand is donned with a device connected to the canister, that has an almost centipede like contraption wrapped around his index finger with sharp appendages to connect itself to the finger.
Design piece for the character Yorick. A supernatural human, he’s wearing a jester outfit, with the shoulders and pants puffed & slashed, in varying shades of purples, with his boots, gloves and belt being brown. His venetian mask, ornate & abstract with bells at the end of its appendages, hides the absence of Yorick’s head, with a billowing, purple smoking in its place.
An illustration featuring the character, Magna, from the project “Children of Le Fay”, as depicted by Val. A small, dark skinned girl with large, black, fro-y hair, she dons a pair of circular rimmed glasses, along with hair weights that form a single dread. She wears a large, fluffy coat over his blue buttoned top, darker blue & puffy shorts and beige leggings that go down to brown boots. In her gloved hands is a big, turquoise book.
An illustration of the location “Little Avalon” from the project “Children of Le Fay”, as depicted by Val. A small village with an unusual layout, it’s situated within a deep forest, with 3 buildings on each side of the surrounding gates and a fountain in the centre. Storefronts and carts are placed around the town. At bottom right is the town graveyard, with the ghostly spirit of Morgana seemingly sitting on top of the cemetery.

An illustration of a combat background in the location “Ishland Forest” from the project “Children of Le Fay”, as depicted by Val. Coated in various shades of magenta & purple, it’s a simple hallway-like path, with large trees occupying each side, becoming more obscured by shadow further down the path.
